Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants to sign Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals in January, claims The Sun.
Emery is looking to bolster his midfield options with the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny set to leave the club over the next two transfer windows.
Fornals has caught the eye for Villarreal since the start of last season and reportedly only has a £17.5m release clause in his existing deal with the Spanish club.
Villarreal currently languish down in 16th in La Liga after making a poor start to the season and will struggle to keep hold of their best player.
The 22-year-old has started 11 of Villarreal’s opening 12 league fixtures and scored a goal of the season contender in their 3-0 win away to Athletic Club in September.
Since the start of last season, only Barcelona duo Lionel Messi (17) and Luis Suarez (16) have registered more assists than Fornals (13) in La Liga.
