Manchester United confirm Herrera’s departure

Manchester United have confirmed Ander Herrera will leave the club when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Herrera has grown into a fan favourite during his five-year spell at United and the club had hoped to secure his long-term services.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side did not act quickly enough and Herrera is now expected to join Paris Saint-Germain on a Bosman transfer this summer.

United take on Cardiff in their final game of the season at Old Trafford on Sunday and Herrera is expected to play in what will be his farewell match alongside club captain Antonio Valencia.

Solskjaer has called on United to move away from Galactico signings this summer and recruit players who genuinely want to play for the club.

Losing Herrera at this tough time is therefore an obvious blow, given his character and dedication to United.

Injuries have limited Herrera to just 22 appearances in the Premier League this season and his absence throughout the campaign has been a blow for Solskjaer’s side.

It is therefore unsurprising to learn that United have a better win ratio in the Premier League this season in Herrera’s appearances (59.1%) compared to when he hasn’t featured (40%).
