Everton keen on signing Leicester ace

Everton have earmarked Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as their No.1 goalkeeper for next season, according to The Daily Mirror.

Schmeichel, 29, has arguably been Leicester’s best player in what has been a disastrous campaign for the Foxes and Ronald Koeman wants to offer for the Denmark international an escape route this summer.

Koeman only signed Maarten Stekelenburg last summer to replace Tim Howard as their new first choice goalkeeper but he has since lost his place in the team to Joel Robles, whose contract expires at the end of next season.

Leicester are currently only one place and one point above the bottom three and relegation to the Championship would potentially force the reigning Premier League champions to sell their best players at cut prices.

In the last two Premier League campaigns only three goalkeepers have kept more clean sheets than Schmeichel (19).
