West Brom are in discussions with Tottenham over a £15m move for out-of-favour defender Kevin Wimmer, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Wimmer is deemed surplus to requirements at Tottenham and is free to leave, with West Brom now at the front of the queue.
Tony Pulis has been interested in signing a new centre back all summer and Wimmer’s potential arrival does not necessarily mean Jonny Evans, who is wanted by Manchester City, will be sold.
The Baggies had earmarked a move for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson at the start of the summer but Pulis has given up in the 24-year-old after the Championship outfit slapped a £30m price tag on his head.
Tottenham paid £4.3m to sign Wimmer from German side Cologne in May 2015 but the Austrian defender has failed to make any significant impression, limited to just 13 league starts in that time.
In fact, since the start of last season Tottenham have only won one of the four league matches Wimmer has started, compared to a win rate of 74.3% without him in the starting XI.
