Brighton announce Hughton’s replacement

Brighton have announced the arrival of Swansea City head coach Graham Potter on a four-year deal running until the summer of 2023.

The Seagulls sacked Chris Hughton the day after the conclusion of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign after finishing one place above the bottom three.

Brighton have spent the last two years in the Premier League and are now aiming to finish closer to the top 10.

Potter only spent one season at Swansea but caught the eye after guiding the club to a 10th-place finish after a disruptive summer.

The 44-year-old was managing Swedish side Oestersunds two years ago but will now have his first crack of managing a Premier League side.

“I was sold by the long-term vision and passion shown by Tony Bloom, Paul Barber and Dan Ashworth,” Potter told the club’s official website.

“The ideas and plans they have for the future of this football club excited me; I am thrilled and honoured to be a part of it.

“This club has been on an incredible journey and my aim along with Bjorn [Hamberg], Kyle [Macauley] and Billy [Reid], is to ensure the great work that has gone before us is built on, as we strive to cement our place in the Premier League for many years to come.”
