İlkay Gündoğan has ended speculation he could be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer after signing a new contract, keeping him at the club until June 2017.
The Germany international had reportedly been a target for a host of clubs around Europe, including Manchester United and Manchester City.
There were doubts over whether Gündoğan would be the same player after his 18-month injury lay off, but he proved an indispensible player to Dortmund long-term plan last season.
Gündoğan ranked supreme above all his Dortmund teammates for pass completion (85.5%) and average passes per game (70.3). In terms of the Bundesliga, only five players averaged more accurate short passes than Gündoğan last season (55.3) – four of which where Bayern players.
