Arsenal make loan approach for Real Madrid creator

Arsenal are one of several clubs around Europe chasing Martin Odegaard's signature from Real Madrid this month, claims Sky Sports.

Odegaard has put the whole of Europe on red alert after telling Madrid he wants to leave on loan this month.

The Norway international was one of La Liga's best players last season during a loan spell with Real Sociedad and returned to Madrid 12 months early as a result.

However, Zinedine Zidane has made it clear Odegaard does not feature in his immediate plans and now the 22-year-old wants to leave.

Real Sociedad are the frontrunners to re-sign the creative midfielder on loan but Arsenal have made it clear they are also keen.

Mikel Arteta is now looking to bolster his squad for the remainder of the season after offloading some of Arsenal's deadwood this month.

Mesut Ozil, Sead Kolasinac and Sokratis have all left Arsenal this month to free up room for new signings.

Arsenal have really struggled creating chance this season after failing in their attempts to land Houssem Aouar from Lyon in the summer.

Emile Smith Rowe's recent emergence has given Arsenal some breathing room in their search for a new No.10 but Arteta wants to ease the burden on the youngster.

The Gunners have seemingly earmarked Odegaard as the perfect signing after being alerted to his potential availability.

Odegaard has only got five minutes of playing time across Madrid's last eight league matches, left on the bench on five occasions.

He played a direct hand in 10 goals for Real Sociedad in La Liga last season, while only two players registered more key passes than Odegaard (2) in the division.
