Erik Lamela has dismissed suggestions he wants to leave Tottenham and insists he wants to return to first-team action as soon as possible.
The 24-year-old hasn’t featured since October 25 after failing to recover from an on-going hip problem and the Tottenham winger has since returned to Roma to continue his treatment.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed the club had agreed to allow Lamela to return to his former club in a bid to change a routine that had become dispiriting for the tenacious winger.
Despite the fact his club had given the greenlight for Lamela to continue his treatment elsewhere, reports had emerged suggesting he wanted out of White Hart Lane, although the Spurs No.11 has since rejected those claims.
“Just to be clear, I am in Roma at the moment recovering for an injury and not for any other thing that is not to do with football!” Lamela tweeted from his official Twitter account.
“Missing White Hart Lane every minute! Thanks to all of those who encourage me day by day.”
Tottenham initially struggled to cope with Lamela’s absence before Pochettino changed formation to a back-three, but their best performances in the last two seasons have usually been when Lamela is leading their aggressive press.
It is therefore no surprise that Lamela was one of the most carded players in the Premier League prior to his lengthy injury lay-off. In fact, even though he hasn’t featured in any of Tottenham’s last 13 league games, no teammate has committed more fouls in the last two Premier League seasons than Lamela (79).
