Carlo Ancelotti wants to return to the Premier League next summer if current employers Bayern Munich exercise a break clause in his contract, reports ESPN.
The 58-year-old replaced Pep Guardiola as Bayern head coach ahead of the 2016/17 campaign but there have been murmurings of unrest ever since.
Players and staff at Bayern are reportedly unimpressed by Ancelotti’s relaxed manner, which is of complete contrast to the managing style Guardiola adopted at the club.
While Bayern appointed Ancelotti in a deliberate effort to move away from Guardiola’s managing style, things haven’t gone to plan for the former Paris Saint-Germain manager and he is under pressure to deliver this season.
Ancelotti won the Bundesliga in his first season in charge but Bayern were knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter finals stage and failed to reach the DFB Pokal final.
The Italian’s contract is not due to expire until the end of next season but there is a clause in his deal that will allow Bayern to release Ancelotti at the end of the current campaign.
Should Bayern look to appoint a new head coach in the summer, Ancelotti’s preference is to return to the Premier League for the first time since he was sacked as Chelsea manager in 2011.
Manchester United have been interested in Ancelotti in the past but all the top clubs appear settled on their manager for now, although the Chelsea job may come available again given the uncertainty surrounding Antonio Conte’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
As Bayern head coach, Ancelotti is averaging 2.32 points per game, which represents the second highest record in his managerial career, only behind Real Madrid (2.36).
