United starlet rejected switch to rivals

Manchester United starlet Marcus Rashford rejected advances from Manchester City to remain at the club he supported as a child, reports The Daily Mail.

Rashford, 18, became an instant fan favourite after marking his senior debut with a brace in United’s thrilling 5-1 win over FC Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday.

The teenager is the latest in a long line of youngsters to have been given their chance to impress under Louis van Gaal, although he was thrust into the starting XI at the last minute after Anthony Martial was injured in the warm up before the match at Old Trafford.

However, it could have all panned out very differently for the youngster had he accepted City’s offer when he was just nine. He rejected their offer after being impressed by United’s training programme, which was mainly because of Sir Alex Ferguson’s former assistant Rene Meulensteen.
