Manchester United make shock enquiry for Leicester flop

Manchester United's desperate search for a new striker has turned to Monaco forward Islam Slimani, claims The Daily Mail.

Slimani is currently on a season-long loan deal at Monaco after failing to make any impact at Leicester following his £29m arrival in the summer of 2016.

The Algeria international has been a revelation for Monaco this season but could soon be heading back to the Premier League.

Aston Villa were previously linked with a move for the 31-year-old before they signed Mbwana Samatta from Genk at the start of the week.

Leicester are willing to cut short Slimani's loan from Monaco and send him to United but will charge their rivals a £4m loan fee.

With Marcus Rashford out injured for around three months, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now desperate to sign a striker before the window closes next week.

Slimani has played a direct hand in 14 goals in 13 league appearances for Monaco so far this season (seven goals, seven assists) but his record in the Premier League is not as impressive.

In 39 appearances for Leicester and Newcastle, Slimani only managed eight goals and five assists.

Of players that have started at least 10 games in Europe's top 5 leagues this season, Slimani ranks eighth for fewest minutes per goal and assist (1 every 69 minutes of playing time).
