Rodriguez injury scare for Madrid

Real Madrid have been left sweating on the fitness of James Rodriguez after the attacking midfielder was sustained a “knee trauma” during international duty with Colombia.

Rodriguez, 24, was substituted midway through the second half of Colombia’s 1-1 draw with Peru after staying down from a heavy challenge, but doctors have moved to ease Madrid’s fears, claiming he was withdrawn as a precaution.

“James has a knee trauma, it’s not serious and the player was withdrawn from the game as a precautionary measure,” a spokesman of the Colombian medical team is quoted in AS.

Despite the statement, Madrid are set to undertake their own examination of the player and will be hoping the knock is only minor following his explosive start to the season.

In fact, only Gareth Bale had a direct hand in as many of Madrid’s goals as Rodriguez this season (both 3).
