Manchester City will step up their interest in Atletico Madrid centre-back Lucas Hernandez this summer, reports the Sun.
City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to bolster his defence before the season starts and having seen a move for Aymeric Laporte fail to materialise, has since turned his attention to Hernandez.
The 20-year-old Frenchman has a £20m release in his contract, which City could trigger this summer, meaning the Spanish side would have no say over whether the defender stays or departs.
Hernandez put in a number of mature performances in the second half of last season, including a fine showing in the Champions League against Guardiola’s former side Barcelona.
Indeed, Guardiola could now make the youngster City’s third summer signing having already secured the services of Ilkay Gundogan and Nolito from Borussia Dortmund and Celta Vigo, respectively.
