Real Madrid suffer blow in pursuit of new star goalkeeper

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea insists he is ‘very happy’ at Old Trafford despite being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid again.

De Gea, 26, has re-emerged as one of Madrid’s top transfer targets in the summer as Zinedine Zidane’s side look to finally end their hunt for a marquee name to play between the sticks.

Madrid came incredibly close to landing the Spain No.1 in the summer of 2015 before failing to get the necessary paper work complete in time before the transfer window shut.

De Gea went on to sign a new contract with United that is due to expire at 2019 at the earliest, although the feeling has always been that Madrid would look to rekindle their interest in the goalkeeper in the future.

Zidane’s side are also interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, while Tottenham ace Hugo Lloris is another name on their radar as they look to replace Keylor Navas between the sticks with a big name.

However, Madrid could be set to miss out on De Gea for the second time in a matte of years as the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper insists he is still committed to the Red Devils.

“Nobody knows the future,” De Gea told AS when asked about his future. “The future is the future. I’m very happy at United, it’s a great club. In England football is much enjoyed.

"Madrid? I will not talk about that. On that subject I will not talk any more. Now I must stay focused with my club.

“We are already in the final of the League Cup and we are still fighting for the FA Cup and the Europa League to continue making history in this club. We have to give the team time to win the Premier League again.”
