Xabi Alonso could make a surprise return to Real Madrid next summer, reports voxpopuli.com.
The Spaniard's stint in the Spanish capital came to an end 18 months ago when he moved from Madrid to Bayern Munich, where he has enjoyed ample success.
Alonso's contract expires next summer and it remains to be seen whether he will extend his stay with the Bavarian giants.
As such, Madrid have sounded out a possible move for the experienced midfielder, who could stay at Bayern should current manager Pep Guardiola extend his stay at the Alliaz Arena.
Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the 34-year-old, who is averaging more passes per game (92.9) than any other player in the Bundesliga this term.
