AC Milan have announced they have signed Sunderland striker Fabio Borini on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to make the switch permanent next summer.
The Serie A giants have already spent in excess of £60m on four new signings this summer and Vincenzo Montella’s side are showing no signs of reigning in their shopping spree.
Borini emerged as a surprise target for Milan earlier this week before flying to Italy to undergo his medical on Thursday and now the 26-year-old has secured a return to his homeland five years after leaving.
Sunderland are expected to fetch £6m for Borini at the end of next season as the Black Cats look to offload his wages from their books following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Borini made 50 league appearances in the last two Premier League campaigns for Sunderland but only managed seven goals.
