Everton still interested in Manchester United outcast

Everton are still monitoring Wayne Rooney’s future at Manchester United and have not ruled out a move for the England captain, reports Sky Sports.

Rooney’s future at Old Trafford is currently up in the air and he has previously admitted Everton are the only other Premier League club he would consider playing for.

The 31-year-old has gone on to become United and England’s all-time record goalscorer since the Red Devils paid Everton £27m for his services back in 2004.

However, Rooney dropped down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho last season and is free to leave as the United boss looks to revamp his offensive options this summer.

Everton are currently in the market for more strikers and may be forced to go big if Chelsea match their £100m valuation for Romelu Lukaku.

Ronald Koeman’s side have reportedly entered the race to sign Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud but they have not closed the book on bringing Rooney back to Goodison Park.

Rooney only started 15 Premier League matches last season and with United looking to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, there won’t be any improvement in that respect for the United No.10.

Despite a lack of game time, only two United players registered more assists in the Premier League last term than Rooney (5).
