Chelsea have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Chinese Super League side for the sale of Oscar in a deal worth £60m.
Oscar will officially join the Chinese outfit when the January transfer window opens, with the Brazilian set to become the most expensive player sold by a Premier League side since Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid for £80m in 2009.
The 25-year-old has struggled to find a place in Antonio Conte’s new 3-4-3 formation and the Chelsea manager revealed the offer from Shanghai SIPG was too good to turn down, with the Premier League leaders set to re-invest the money in the squad next month.
Oscar has spent the last four years with Chelsea after snubbing Tottenham to join the Blues from Brazilian side Internacional, but failed to hit the heights expected, particularly after his sensational goal against Juventus in the Champions League the same year he signed.
The since of formation effectively ruled Oscar out of contention for a start with Chelsea, having last featured in a starting XI in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Liverpool midway through September – the last time they dropped points in the league.
