Chelsea target wants Napoli stay

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte may have to look at alternative centre-backs to Kalidou Koulibaly once again this summer with the Senegal international happy with life at Napoli.

Koulibaly was one of Chelsea’s top transfer targets last summer before Conte turned his attention to re-signing David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain on the last day of the summer transfer window.

Luiz has been an overriding success since returning to Stamford Bridge but Chelsea are still reportedly looking to strengthen their defence particularly with captain John Terry set to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.

Any thoughts of rekindling their interest in Koulibaly may as well end now, with the 25-year-old, who signed a new long-term contract in September, still committed as ever to Napoli.

“We renewed with Napoli until 2021, so Kalidou will stay at Napoli,” his agent, Bruno Satin, told Radio Crc, via The Daily Mail.

“A release clause? There is no clause. These are private and confidential matters between the club and the player.”

Since the start of last season only Francesco Acerbi (330) and Miranda (270) have won possession in the defensive third in the last two Serie A campaigns than Koulibaly (246).
