Valencia are in talks to sign Kevin Gameiro from Atletico Madrid, reports MARCA.
The 31-year-old is expected to leave Atletico this summer with Diego Simeone’s side understood to be closing in on AC Milan outcast Nikola Kalinic.
Gameiro joined Atletico from Sevilla in 2016 in a blockbuster deal worth £28m but the French striker has failed to live up to the price tag.
The veteran striker dropped further down the pecking order at the start of the year after Atletico re-signed Diego Costa.
Marcelino is interested in signing Gameiro and the striker reportedly only has eyes on linking up with the Valencia head coach.
Atletico are reportedly holding out for up to €15m (£13.3m), while Valencia have opened discussions around €8m (£7.1m).
Gameiro made 56 league appearances in his first two seasons at Atletico, but only 32 were as starts. In that time, the former Sevilla striker only managed 19 goals.
