Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid have entered talks over a new contract until 2020, according to Spanish publication AS.
The Argentine’s current deal with Los Colchoneros runs until 2018, but Atletico are keen to tie their current boss down for another two years.
Simeone, however, prefers to manage from year to year, so it remains to be seen whether talks will bear fruit or not.
Both parties recently agreed to take off two years of his current deal, but Atletico are keen to keep the 47-year-old in the Spanish capital following interest from England and Italy.
Atletico are prepared to back Simeone in the transfer market to prove his worth to the club as the former champions prepare to spend the cash to sign Diego Costa and Vitolo, from Chelsea and Sevilla respectively, even with their transfer ban, which means the pair can’t be registered until January.
Atletico finished third in La Liga last season under Simeone and the former midfielder still has the utmost faith of the club to continue to challenge the Real Madrid and Barcelona duopoly.
