Tottenham midfielder Dembele completes move to China

Tottenham have confirmed Mousa Dembele has completed a move to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have opted to cash in on Dembele after the 31-year-old refused to entertain a contract renewal.

Dembele only had six months left to run on his Tottenham contract and the Premier League outfit have reportedly banked in the region of £11m for the midfielder.

The Belgium international is regarded as one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League of recent years but has been plagued with injuries throughout his Tottenham career.

Dembele was set to join Beijing Guoan but a deal broke down and he has now become Guangzhou’s most high profile player, signing a three-year deal, and will be managed by Dragan Stojkovic, who won the Champions League as a player with Marseille 25 years ago.

Dembele made his final Tottenham appearance in a 3-2 win away to Wolves at the start of November after lasting just seven minutes before needing to come off through injury.

The powerful midfielder has been recovering from a serious ankle injury ever since then but will be fit by the time Guangzhou’s season starts in March.

Of players to have attempted at least 75 dribbles in the Premier League since August 2016, Dembele has the best success rate (84.5%).
