Huddersfield boss set to become Wolfsburg boss

Huddersfield manager David Wagner is poised to replace Valerien Ismael as Wolfsburg manager in the winter break, reports Bild.

Ismael, 41, was only promoted from his position as U23 coach to succeed Dieter Hecking at the start of November but his appointment has had little effect on results.

Wolfsburg have endured a disastrous 2016 and they have no turned to Huddersfield coach, and former assistant to Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, Wagner in a bid to turn their fortunes around next year.

Wagner, 45, has enjoyed relative success during his first stint in management after being appointed Huddersfield manager in November 2015, with the Terriers currently fourth in the Championship.

Wolfsburg, meanwhile, are at the other end of the Bundesliga, just one point above the relegation play-off position having only managed three wins in 15 matches.

In 55 matches as Huddersfield manager Wagner has a respectable win ratio of 40%.
