Manchester City target excited to play for West Brom

Jonny Evans has put a failed move to Manchester City behind him and insists he is excited to finally play for West Brom this season.

The former Manchester United defender is yet to play for West Brom this term due to injury but is scheduled to feature this weekend after returning to first-team action for Northern Ireland in the international break.

It was thought that Evans had already played his final game for West Brom as he was expected to complete a £25m move for City at the end of the transfer window, but the two clubs failed to agree a fee.

Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill relieved during the week that Evans was relived the deal collapsed, while the 29-year-old has now revealed he can’t wait to play for West Brom again.

“I am looking forward to getting back and getting involved,” Evans told talkSPORT. “It has been a great start for us – seven points rom nine – and we have been outstanding in both the home games I have been at.

“We finished tenth last year and the season sort of fizzled out. We were in a great position and it maybe ended a bit disappointing for us. The boy Krychowiak we played against in our first game at the Euros and he was outstanding. He was the best player on the pitch.

“What the manager has done is add great competition to the squad and it means everyone will have to raise their game to get into the team.”

West Brom are one of seven sides still unbeaten in the Premier League this season and Evans’ return will only boost their chances of continuing their fine start to the campaign.

Since the start of last season only two players have won possession in the defensive third more times than Evans in the Premier League (150).
