Tottenham consider shock £25m move to re-sign midfielder

Tottenham have emerged as surprise suitors to sign Swansea ace Gylfi Sigurdsson in a £25m move this summer, reports The Daily Mail.

Sigurdsson spent two hugely underwhelming years with Tottenham before re-joining Swansea in 2014 but the Iceland international has established himself as one of the best players in the league this season.

The 27-year-old was sold just as Mauricio Pochettino was made Tottenham manager and the Argentine has already expressed his regret at the sale in the past after claiming Sigurdsson would have been a perfect player for his style of football.

Sigurdsson is widely expected to leave Swansea for the second time this summer and has already been touted as a Ross Barkley replacement for Everton. However, Ronald Koeman's side could now race stiff competition from Spurs, who are ironically considering alternatives to Barkley after Everton slapped a £50m valuation on his head.

Despite the fact Sigurdsson has spent the season playing for a hugely underperforming Swansea side that only recently fended off relegation, the creative midfielder has managed to play a direct hand in 22 league goals this term.

In fact, only Kevin De Bruyne (16) has registered more assists in the Premier League this season than Sigurdsson (13).
