AC Milan sack Montella and install former midfielder as manager
AC Milan have announced they have sacked Vincenzo Montella and promoted Gennaro Gattuso as his replacement.
Montella has been walking the managerial tight rope for most of the season following Milan’s stuttering start to the season.
Milan in excess of £150m on new players over the summer but Montella has fallen short of expectations this season.
The Rossoneri are currently 18 points adrift of lead leaders Napoli after only managing six wins from their first 14 league games.
Milan have also confirmed that Gattuso, who has been coaching the club’s youth teams, will stand in as manager.
The 39-year-old spent 14 years as a player for Milan and is now back in management for the first time relegating Pisa from Serie B last season.
Pisa finished bottom of Serie B last season despite boosting the second best defensive record in the division (36 goals conceded).
