Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has confirmed the club are looking to sign a new striker to ease the burden on Robert Lewandowski.
The Bundesliga giants have been heavily linked with a move to re-sign Sandro Wagner from Hoffenheim in the last month as they step up their search for a back-up striker.
However, Bayern may struggle to convince a top quality striker to settle for a bench role as Lewandowski rarely misses matches.
“If we see the need, we will do 50,60 and 70 million euro transfers,” BILD quote Hoeness as telling reporters on Saturday.
“There is no secret that we are looking for a back-up for Lewandowski. It will also depend on the Dortmund game on Wednesday. If we remain in the three competitions beyond winter, then the need for a backup is even bigger.”
Lewandowski has only failed to start 15 Bundesliga matches since joining Bayern from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2014, illustrating the problem Jupp Heynckes side may encounter next month.
In that time, the Poland international has scored at least seven more goals than any other Bundesliga player (92 goals in 113 appearances).
