Manchester United to reward midfielder with contract extension
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will give the greenlight to trigger a clause in Ander Herrera’s contract that will extend his stay at the club by a further 12 months, reports The Sun.
The 28-year-old has developed into an integral part of United’s first-team plans this season after struggling to establish himself as a regular during his first two years at the club under Louis van Gaal.
Herrera’s existing deal is due to expire in 2019 but he has arguably been one of United’s best players this season and Mourinho is keen to ensure the Spaniard is tied down until at least 2020.
In the Premier League this season only three players have completed more tackles and interceptions combined than Herrera (132), while the former Athletic Club midfielder is the only player to average more than 100 passes per game in the Europa League this season (102.5).
