Fernando Torres is close to agreeing a new deal with Atletico Madrid, according to the club’s president Enrique Cerezo.
The 32-year-old will become a free agent on Friday when his 18-month loan deal from AC Milan and his contract with the Serie A giants comes to and end.
However, Torres is close to securing a new deal with his boyhood club after impressing towards the end of last season for Diego Simeone’s side.
“The renewal [Torres’ contract] is pending a few small details and I do not think that there will be any problem. It will be done soon. Everything is very well organised and calm,” he is quoted as saying in Marca, via Sky Sports.
Torres scored two more goals for Atletico in La Liga last season (11) than he had managed in his previous two league campaigns combined (9).
