Out-of-favour Chelsea striker set for shock new deal

Chelsea are planning to offer Michy Batshuayi a new contract before sending him out on loan next season, reports The Sun.

Batshuayi has entered the final 12 months of his current Chelsea contract and does not figure in Frank Lampard's plans for the 2020/21 campaign.

The Belgium international was below both Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud in the pecking order at Chelsea last season and now the Blues have signed Timo Werner.

Chelsea were hoping to offload Batshuayi permanently this summer but have failed to whip up any real interest in the 26-year-old.

With no club willing to match Chelsea's demands for Batshuayi, they accept only a loan move away is now the only option this summer.

Chelsea are now looking to tie Batshuayi down on a new long-term deal in order to retain his value before letting him find regular playing time elsewhere.

Batshuayi has endured loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace since joining Chelsea from Marseille in 2016.

In that time, Batshuayi has only started five Premier League games for Chelsea and made a further 43 appearances from the bench.

Despite failing to break into the Chelsea first-team on a regular basis over the last four years, Batshuayi does still average a goal every 102.3 minutes of playing time in the Premier League for the Blues.
