Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres suffers serious head injury
Fernando Torres is targetting a swift return to first team action after spending the night in hospital following a nasty head injury suffered in Atletico Madrid's 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna on Thursday night.
Torres required immediate medical attention after appearing to be knocked out conscious during an aerial duel with Deportivo midfielder Alex Bergantinos just after the hour mark.
Several players from both sides immediately rushed to Torres’ aid after falling hard to the ground before the veteran striker was stretchered off wearing a neck brace.
Atletico were quick to confirm Torres had regained consciousness and that he would spend the night in hospital for further observation, although his manager, Diego Simeone, sparked fears after revealing after the match that he believes Torres may have broken his neck.
However, the former Spain international has eased fears after taking to social media to reveal his injury was just a fright and that he is already looking to get back on the pitch as quickly as possible.
Torres has proven a valuable asset for Simeone this season when called upon, scoring four goals in his last seven appears for his boyhood club.
