Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has been ruled out for three weeks with a calf injury, reports Mundo Deportivo, via AS.
Cillessen joined Barcelona from Ajax over the summer as back up to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen following the late departure of Claudio Bravo to Manchester City.
The Netherlands international has mainly been used in the Copa del Rey and was expected to start in both legs of their clash with Athletic Club at the start of next month but returned to training with a calf problem sustained during their winter break.
It means the 27-year-old will miss almost all of January when Barcelona return to competitive action, which isn’t good news for Luis Enrique’s side who play five games in just 17 days starting away to Athletic Club on January 5.
Only two current La Liga goalkeepers have a worse save success rate in Spain’s top tier this season than Cillessen (50%), who conceded two of the four shots he faced in the 2-1 defeat at home to Alaves.
