Juventus man emerges as top midfield target for Aston Villa

Aston Villa have made an approach to sign Rodrigo Bentancur from Serie A side Juventus, reports the Daily Mail.

Villa have been busy in the January market, bringing in high profile additions Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne from Barcelona and Everton, respectively, while Robin Olsen has also joined on loan as backup for Emiliano Martinez.

And if reports are to be believed, the Villans are not prepared to stop there with head coach Steven Gerrard keen on adding another midfielder to the ranks.

Bentancur hasn't exactly struggled for game time for Juventus this season, starting 12 times in Italy's top tier, but the Old Lady are willing to listen to offers for the Uruguay international.

Gerrard isn't short of midfield options at Villa Park, yet is hoping he can add Bentancur to the squad before too long as he seeks to add a controlling midfielder to the squad.

Villa have impressed since Gerrard took over the reins with a 1-0 win at Everton on Saturday lifting the Villans up to 10th in the table.
