Hellas Verona have confirmed they will be without veteran striker Luca Toni for two months after damaging the medial collateral ligaments in his left knee.
Toni, 38, lasted just 20 minutes of Verona’s 1-1 draw against Atlanta at the weekend before being forced off with injury and the Italian striker is now a doubt to appear before the turn of the year.
A statement released on Verona’s official website read: “Hellas Verona FC announces that the diagnostic testing that was performed on Luca Toni showed a lesion of the second degree of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
“Recovery times are estimated approximately in eight weeks.”
The loss is a huge blow to Andrea Mandorlini’s ambitions in Serie A. In fact, no player has scored more league goals than Toni in Serie A since the start of last season (23).
