Everton confident of signing England international

Everton are becoming increasingly confident that they can sign Burnley defender Michael Keane in the summer, reports the Sunday Mirror.

Burnley are resigned to losing their star centre-back at the end of the season, but know they can command a top fee for the England international.

A host of Premier League teams are keen on Keane, with Manchester United and Manchester City both linked with moves for the 24-year-old.

Everton, however, are set to firm up their interest in Keane at the end of the season with an agreement between themselves and Leicester soon to run out.

When director of football Steve Walsh moved to Goodison Park from Leicester City last summer, there was an agreement in place that the Toffees couldn’t sign any of Walsh’s identified transfer targets for 12 months.

With that set to expire, though, Everton are expected to make a £25m move for Keane once the transfer window opens in a bid to improve at the back.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman remains keen on Virgil van Dijk, but a £50m asking price is expected to see them move for Keane in the summer.
