CSKA Moscow midfielder Roman Eremenko has been banned from football for two years after testing positive for cocaine, UEFA have confirmed.
Eremenko, 29, failed a drugs test after CSKA’s 2-2 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions league on 14 September, in which he scored the equaliser prior to half time.
The Finland international hasn’t featured for CSKA since a 2-0 defeat away to FC Rostov at the start of October after initially being suspended, and UEFA have since confirmed the midfielder will now serve a two-year ban until 6 October 2018.
“The analysis of the A sample revealed the presence of cocaine and its metabolites,” a UEFA statement read, via BBC Sport.
Leonid Slutsky’s side have not been at their best this season and are already six points adrift of league leaders Spartak Moscow. They have only won two of the seven matches in all competitions since Eremenko last played.
In the last three Russian Premier League seasons only Ahmed Musa (23) has scored more goals for CSKA than Eremenko (19).
