Valencia are looking to make former Villarreal manager Marcelino their new manager, according to AS.
Los Che are currently bottom of La Liga after losing each of their opening four matches and they are now looking for a new manager after sacking Pako Ayestaran less than six months into the job.
Valencia have earmarked Marcelino as his potential successor but they are waiting to find out if he is eligible to manage the team, as Spanish FA rules prohibit a manager from taking charge of two teams in the same division during the same campaign.
The Spanish FA state a new season starts at July 1 and Marcelino was sacked in August, although Valencia are hopeful he will be clear to manage them as he did not take charge of a single competitive fixture.
In his three years in charge of Villarreal Marcelino finished with a win rate of 49.4% of his matches.
