Manchester United and Real Madrid target free to leave Dutch side

Donny van de Beek, who has attracted interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid, is free to leave Ajax in the next transfer window, chief executive Edwin van der Sar has confirmed.

The Dutch midfielder has a legion of admirers across Europe having played a key role in Ajax's progression to the semi-finals of the 2018/19 Champions League.

Van de Beek was linked with a big money move away from the Eredivisie champions last summer, but Ajax fought off interest from across the continent following the sales of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt to Barcelona and Juventus, respectively.

However, Van der Sar has confirmed the 23-year-old, along with Andre Onana and Nicolas Taglifico, are allowed to leave this summer should they receive a suitable fee for the trio.

"Last year, we made verbal agreements with [Andre] Onana, [Nicolas] Tagliafico and Van de Beek to stay another season, and then we look to help each other and find the next step in their careers. Nothing has changed," Van der Sar is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

With the current Coronavirus pandemic impacting football across the globe, Van der Sar was quick to add that the three players won't be sold on the cheap, stating: "There won't be a 50 per cent discount. The clubs can forget about that."

Ajax have already agreed to sell Hakim Ziyech to Chelsea this summer and it looks as though the core of their squad will be sold on in the transfer window.
