Palace interested in Southampton defender

Crystal Palace have entered the race to end Steven Caulker’s loan spell at Southampton, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Caulker is currently on loan at Southampton from Queens Park Rangers until the end of the season but has struggled to usurp Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk in Ronald Koeman’s starting XI.

Despite only making one start this season, Koeman has previously reiterated his desire to keep the 24-year-old for the duration of the loan agreement at Southampton.

Palace and Bournemouth are among the sides to have reportedly shown an interest in the central defender, but it would require all three clubs to agree to cancel the loan deal, as it is believed there is no get-out clause in the agreement between Southampton and QPR.

Caulker has been limited to just one start and two further appearances from the bench this season and was particularly exposed in 6-1 defeat to Liverpool in the last round of the Capital One Cup.
