AC Milan manager Vincenzo Montella has ruled out a potential move for Chelsea outcast Cesc Fabregas in January.
Fabregas, 28, has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge since dropping down the pecking order under Antonio Conte, with Milan one of the sides regularly mooted with an interest.
However, Montella has now quashed those reports and insists Fabregas is not the type of midfielder Milan are currently looking for in the wake of Riccardo Montolivo serious knee injury.
“We are looking for a player who has the characteristics of Montolivo, who can also play in a midfield two,” Montella told Corriere dello Sera, via Sky Sports.
“Fabregas? He doesn’t have those particularly attributes.”
In the last three Premier League campaigns no player has registered more assists than Fabregas (26).
