Real Madrid identify Pogba alternatives

Real Madrid will move for Ajax starlet Donny van de Beek or Tottenham maestro Christian Eriksen this summer if they fail to prise Paul Pogba away from Manchester United, claims MARCA.

Pogba has been earmarked as a top transfer target by Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane but the Spanish giants are not interested in United’s £150m valuation.

The 2018 World Cup winner is reportedly unhappy at United and does not believe the club have improved since he returned to the club in 2016.

Zidane does not want to be drawn into a summer-long saga with Pogba and has instead earmarked Eriksen and Van de Beek as potential alternatives.

Despite the fact Eriksen could leave Tottenham for nothing next summer, chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly slapped a £120m asking price on the Dane’s head.

Madrid are also interested in Van de Beek, who was a revelation for Ajax during their run to the last four of the Champions League this season.

The 22-year-old played a direct hand in 19 league goals from central midfield this season and also scored or assisted five times in the Champions League.
