Liverpool make decision on Mignolet’s future at the club
The Daily Mirror are reporting that Simon Mignolet will not be allowed to leave Liverpool in January.
Mignolet has dropped completely out of favour under Jurgen Klopp and has spent the majority of the last two seasons on the bench.
Liverpool spent a then-world record fee for a goalkeeper to sign Alisson from Roma in the summer before blocking Mignolet’s departure.
The Belgium international wanted to leave but was forced to stay put after Liverpool opted to axe Loris Karius.
Nice are reportedly interested in prising Mignolet away from Liverpool in the January transfer window but will have to look for alternatives.
Liverpool have no interest selling Mignolet as that would mean having to sign another goalkeeper to compete with Danny Ward for the right to be Alisson’s deputy.
It means Mignolet’s frustrations will continue until at least the summer when his position will be re-evaluated next.
Mignolet has only made one appearance in all competitions for Liverpool this season and that came in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in the cup.
Elimination from the League Cup means Mignolet’s next Liverpool game isn’t likely to come until the FA Cup starts at the beginning of next year.
