Manchester City star surges to top spot in Premier League standings

Manchester City romped to an impressive 8-0 win over Watford on Saturday as the Hornets fell to yet another heavy defeat to the champions. Indeed, City understandably dominate the Premier League team of the week with no fewer than seven representatives, with Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva the star man in the XI.

Indeed, Silva secured a perfect 10 WhoScored rating, one of four players to do so for City on Saturday, and it saw him soar into the top 10 player rating standings with a 7.90 rating. Silva is one of six City players to feature among the Premier League’s best so far this season and their thrashing of Watford means Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino (7.93) was knocked off top spot, despite his goal against Chelsea.

It’s another South American striker that has surged to first with Sergio Aguero now top of the best-rated Premier League player ratings. Aguero’s goal against Watford means he has scored in every Premier League game this season with his WhoScored rating (8.23) the best in England’s top tier. Kevin De Bruyne (8.19) rose three spots to second with Firmino making up the top three.

A former Liverpool star misses out on a podium spot in the top rated players as Raheem Sterling (7.92) comes in at fourth having dropped two spots in the standings, with teammates Riyad Mahrez (7.78) and Rodri (7.76) rising 19 and six spots, respectively, to feature in sixth and seventh.

Sebastien Haller (7.62) moved three places up the player ratings as he put in a fine showing in West Ham’s 2-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday to continue his bright start to life in London. Another player from the capital also features in the top 10, though Son Heung-Min (7.60) fell five spots to ninth after a sub-par performance in Tottenham’s 2-1 loss at Leicester in Saturday’s early kick off.

Rounding off the top 10 is Liverpool striker Sadio Mane, who kept his place in tenth with a WhoScored rating of 7.59 following the Reds’ 2-1 win at Chelsea on Sunday.
