2018 World Cup Team of the Tournament: World Champion Griezmann completes XI

Antoine Griezmann concludes the WhoScored Team of the Tournament for the 2018 World Cup after garnering an impressive rating of 7.51 in seven appearances for France.

The 27-year-old started the tournament slowly but finished it as France’s most influential player, scoring a penalty in their 4-2 win over Croatia in Sunday’s final.

In doing so, Griezmann became just the third player to score in a European clubs final and a World Cup final in a single campaign, joining Gerard Muller (1974) and Jorge Valdano (1986) in achieving the feat.

Griezmann scored a brace in Atletico Madrid’s Europa League final win over Marseille in May and has topped a superb summer by playing an integral part in France’s first World Cup triumph in 20 years.

The France No.7 hit top form during the business end of the 2018 World Cup, playing a direct hand in more goals than any other player in the knockout stage (5).

Following Griezmann’s goalscoring form in Russia, which saw the striker net four times, only three French players have netted more goals than Griezmann in major tournaments (10).

There was a lot of pressure on Griezmann to deliver this summer following the manner of his announcement to renew with Atletico on the eve of their first group game and he certainly came good for les Bleus in the end.
