After we ran through the biggest market risers earlier in the week, here we pick out our five players to invest in.
JAMES MADDISON – NORWICH (BUY)
Norwich laboured to a bottom half finish in the Championship this season and it would have been significantly worse without the creative quality of James Maddison. The 21-year-old is one of the best in England’s second tier and featured in the WhoScored.com Championship team of the season after a successful campaign.
His performances haven’t exactly flown under the radar, with a number of Premier League teams keeping tabs on Maddison and for good reason. He made more key passes (124) than any other Championship player this term and chipped in with 14 goals and eight assists. The Canaries will find it hard to turn down Premier League interest in Maddison, who has attracted watchful glances from Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham, and it could be a long, tough summer for Norwich. With a buy price of £1.94 per share on Football INDEX, he’s one to snap up shares in.
JUSTIN KLUIVERT – AJAX (BUY)
Reports this week suggested that Ajax will elect to cash in on teenager Justin Kluivert rather than bow down to his contract demands and that has prompted a scramble to secure his signature across the continent. A host of Premier League teams have courted the Dutchman, while a number of Serie A sides have also been credited with an interest.
Either way, Kluivert is expected to adorn gossip columns across Europe this summer and you can stand to profit on his media buzz. With a buy price of £2.32 per share on Football INDEX, the 19-year-old won’t come cheap, but that should only rise once the transfer window opens and as such; he’ll be worth adding to your portfolio.
GIOVANNI SIMEONE – FIORENTINA (BUY)
Fiorentina have made a late push for a top-6 finish in Serie, even if recent results have seen them stumble in the race to secure a European spot. Youngster Giovanni Simeone has been the key man for the Viola, with the 22-year-old chipping in with 13 league goals and four assists.
Despite his fine form, Simeone still boasts a modest buy price of £1.21 per share on Football INDEX, though that has been steadily climbing, increasing 11.61% over the last seven days. He won’t be short of admirers as the season comes to a head and if Fiorentina miss out on European football, could be on the move this summer. Regardless, he’s one to buy.
HAKIM ZIYECH – AJAX (BUY)
Hakim Ziyech enjoyed a fine season for Ajax, even if they failed to land the Eredivisie title. The Moroccan was top for key passes (142), assists (15), shots (165) and earned a higher WhoScored.com rating (8.22) than any other player this term. Even with Ajax’s reputation, he will attract interest from Europe this summer.
With the World Cup looming, you can be sure Ziyech will be a key man for Morocco as they look to navigate their way past Spain, Portugal and Iran. A strong showing in Russia will see an affordable share price of £1.87 increase and it will be worth adding the 25-year-old to your Football INDEX portfolio sooner rather than later.
XHERDAN SHAQIRI – STOKE (BUY)
Stoke’s relegation was confirmed last week after a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace and it’s likely that a number of their Premier League quality stars will depart for pastures new this summer. One of those is Xherdan Shaqiri, who netted the Potters’ opener in the defeat.
The 26-year-old has scored eight goals and provided six assists this season, a fine return all things considered, and he’ll look to use the World Cup as a shop window to exhibit his creative talent. With an affordable buy price of £1.43 per share on Football INDEX, Shaqiri may be worth taking a punt on ahead of the summer’s action on and off the pitch.
