Season Review: Delaying Pardew sacking costs West Brom dearly

West Brom’s eight-year stint in the Premier League is over after finishing the season bottom of the league.

It’s been a miserable year for the Baggies and they will look back on their decision not to sack Alan Pardew sooner with immense regret.

There is no guarantees that would have changed the end result, but the way they finished the season under Darren Moore indicates they wouldn’t have finished as many as five points off safety.

It would be a shame if West Brom didn’t hand Moore the job on a full-time basis after losing just one of his six games in interim charge, despite playing Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham in that sequence.

SUCCESS - NONE

What can be successful about a team that finishes bottom of the Premier League? Nothing.

West Brom worked hard to establish themselves as a regular mid-table side in the Premier League, but now that is all over and the hard work begins once again.

Do they have what it takes to get back to England’s top-tier at the first attempt?

FLOP - JONNY EVANS

Jonny Evans could have been celebrating winning the Premier League or taking part in a Europa League semi-final had things panned out differently last summer or in January.

Instead of joining Manchester City or Arsenal, Evans remained at West Brom in a season that culminated in relegation to the Championship.

The Northern Ireland international didn’t even have the decency to play West Brom’s final game of the season, reportedly informing Moore that he didn’t want to play by text message.

With a reported £4m relegation release clause in his contract, Evans will not doubt end up at a big club this summer, while West Brom slug it out in the Championship.

However, his performances and conduct, notably during a mid-season break in Spain, need evaluating. It’s been a poor season on and off the field for the 30-year-old
