Long odds on likely outcomes in tonight's Champions League action

Keen to bounce back from a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the weekend, the scoreline against Manchester City was no doubt skewed by Sadio Mane’s dismissal. The Senegalese will be eligible to play in Europe, however, and desperate to play his part before a three game ban, which might not bode well for Sevilla.

Eduardo Berizzo has made a decent start to life at his new club but this will prove a far sterner test after a favourable few fixtures in the league. The visitors lack the firepower of their hosts but will certainly fancy their chances of breaching Liverpool’s leaky backline. Odds (1.75) on a home win are decent enough but throw in the near certainty of both teams scoring and they jump to tasty 3.00.

Feyenoord vs Manchester City - match preview

Dutch champions Feyenoord have picked up where they left off with 4 wins from 4 to start their campaign but a match against Manchester City is more than a step up from what they’ve faced thus far. Van Bronckhorst will also be without star man from last season Nicolai Jorgensen, while the visitors will be in buoyant mood after their 5-0 win over Liverpool.

Guardiola has an embarrassment of riches available in attack and will almost certainly line up with five of six forward thinking players as usual to test the home defence’s resolve. If City can gain an advantage in the first half they should win comfortably, with odds of 2.00 from bet365 on a victory by two or more goals.

RB Leipzig vs Monaco - match preview

With both sides able to field something close to their strongest XIs, Monaco’s meeting with Champions League debutants Leipzig promises to be a great spectacle. The Germans will be aiming to replicate their opponents’ surprise success from last season and in Keita, Forsberg and Werner they boast a trio capable of causing real damage at this level. The main absence for their visitors will be the loss of Thomas Lemar through injury, so there may well be a debut for Keita Balde.

With strong attacking options on either side regardless, we should see plenty of goalmouth action tonight, reflected in short odds on the over 2.5 market. However, both of these sides do play an entertaining brand of football so 2.37 on over 3.5 goals is still a decent bet.

Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund - match preview

Undoubtedly one of the most intriguing ties of the night, Tottenham begin their Champions League campaign with the visit of Borussia Dortmund, with both sides missing some important players. With Alli suspended and Wanyama sidelined the hosts will be weakened in the middle of the park, while BVB are without Julian Weigl in that area, as well as defenders Schmelzer, Guerreiro and Bartra.

A game that would likely have seen goals at both ends anyway may become even more open as a result, and with both teams short of full strength it remains hard to separate the two. Throw in Spurs’ troubles at Wembley and odds on a home victory seem too short, whereas a score draw, at 4.00, looks a more than plausible outcome.
