World famous pair Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo feature in the WhoScored European team of the month as they excelled for Barcelona and Juventus, respectively, in October... 

 

Goalkeeper: Alfred Gomis (Dijon) - 8.06 rating 

 

Occupying the spot between the sticks it the best XI in Europe's top five leagues is Dijon shotstopper Alfred Gomis. The Senegal star has impressed following his arrival with the Ligue 1 side and made 17 saves for Dijon in October, the third best return on the continent. Two clean sheets in three appearances also contributed to a WhoScored rating of 8.06 

 

Right-back: Adama Traore (Wolves) - 7.83 rating 

 

Adama Traore's first and second goals of the Premier League season came in Wolves' 2-0 win over defending champions Manchester City to kickstart October. The Spaniard kept his spot in draws with Southampton and Newcastle and was able to maximise his strength of 'dribbling' as he completed 11 dribbles to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.83. 

 

Centre-back: Yunis Abdelhamid (Reims) - 7.71 rating 

 

Reims were one of only two sides not to concede a goal in October with centre-back Yunus Abdelhamid crucial to their watertight rearguard. The 32-year-old returned a WhoScored rating of 7.71 last month, which included a man of the match display against Montpellier. He made nine tackles and interceptions combined and 12 clearances to return such an impressive rating. 

 

Centre-back: Christian Kabasele (Watford) - 7.87 rating 

 

It's no shock that Watford's form his improved following Christian Kabasele's return to the first team fold as he made 26 clearances in October, that the second most in Europe's top five leagues last month. It helped the Belgian return a WhoScored rating of 7.87 as he continues to prove his worth to the Hornets. 

 

Left-back: Denis Bouanga (Saint-Etienne) - 8.24 rating 

 

No player in Europe's top five leagues in October won more WhoScored man of the match awards than Denis Bouange (3), who scored one and assisted another for Saint-Etienne last month. 15 successful dribbles, that the second most in Europe's top five leagues, was a fine return for the 24-year-old, whose average rating was a solid 8.24. 

 

Right midfield: Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - 9.55 rating 

 

Our European player of the month with a WhoScored rating of 9.55, Lionel Messi made a blistering return to Barcelona action, as he put in perfect 10 performances in wins over Sevilla and Real Valladolid, the latter his 100th such rating in a Barcelona shirt. The Argentine had a direct hand in seven goals in October to feature in this XI. 

 

Central midfield: Angel Di Maria (PSG) - 8.32 rating 

 

Messi's compatriot Angel Di Maria also makes the grade following an impressive October, with the standout display coming in a 4-1 win over Nice, where he netted twice to return a perfect 10 WhoScored rating. With an average of 8.32, the PSG star is good value for his inclusion.

The third Argentine to make the midfield, Alejandro Gomez created more clear-cut goalscoring opportunities (6) than any other player in Europe's top five leagues in October. The Atalanta star had a direct hand in four goals in four league outings last month, which included a man of the match display against Lecce, to return an average WhoScored rating of 8.11. 

 

Left midfield: Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) - 8.02 rating 

 

The Premier League player of the month with a WhoScored rating of 8.02, Jack Grealish rounds off the XI as he scored two and assisted one for Aston Villa. An additional eight key passes and seven successful dribbles helped Grealish secure his spot in this XI. 

 

Striker: Arkadiusz Milik (Napoli) - 8.37 rating 

 

Arkadiusz Milik has scored four league goals this season, all of which have come in October. Only a couple of players bagged more than the Pole last month, with those four goals coming from 15 shots, returning a commendable conversion rate of 26.7%. No player had more shots than the Juventus forward (20), while two goals, nine key passes and seven dribbles played a part in his inclusion in this team.
