As the October international break gets underway, we’re taking a look back at the standout performers from the first seven rounds of action in the Premier League.

David Raya (Arsenal) - 7.32 

 

Arsenal’s David Raya has unquestionably been the division’s standout shot-stopper thus far, with crucial performances against the likes of Aston Villa and Manchester City already this campaign. The Spaniard has helped Mikel Arteta’s side to an unbeaten start through their seven matches, with clean sheets against Wolves, Aston Villa and Tottenham. 

 

Pedro Porro (Tottenham) - 7.16 

 

Raya’s compatriot - and club rival - Pedro Porro makes our XI as the best rated right-back in the Premier League so far. The 25-year-old scored in the opening day draw with Leicester, while he has also made a total of 18 tackles, 10 interceptions and 13 key passes over the course of the opening seven matches. 

 

Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool) - 7.19 

 

After starting Liverpool’s opening day victory over Ipswich from the bench, Ibrahima Konate has played just about every minute for Arne Slot’s side this season. The Frenchman has once again built a strong partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the back, helping the Reds to a league-leading five clean sheets so far. Konate has also stepped up in the attacking third, providing an assist in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth and heading home his first Premier League goal in the victory at Wolves. 

 

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - 7.35 

 

Konate is partnered at the back by Liverpool team-mate Virgil van Dijk, who continues to maintain his status as the Premier League’s best defender, with a WhoScored rating of 7.35 the highest among his rivals. The Dutchman leads those in his position for interceptions (17) and aerial duels won (30), with his presence crucial to the Reds impressive defensive record thus far. 

 

 

Antonee Robinson (Fulham) - 7.19 

 

After an impressive 2023/24 campaign, Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson has picked up where he left off this season, earning the best WhoScored rating of any player in his position. The USA international has provided two assists - against Leicester and Ipswich - while he has also made 10 interceptions and 25 tackles. 

 

Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) - 8.25 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 8.25, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is the Premier League’s best rated player so far this season. The England international seemingly delivers an even better performance each week, with his last two - against Leicester and Southampton - rated 9.63 and 9.41 respectively. The 23-year-old leads players in Europe’s top five leagues for big chances created (12) and assists (7), while he has also netted two league goals. 

 

Cole Palmer (Chelsea) - 7.96 

 

Like Saka, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has also made a blistering start to the season, continuing his remarkable form last campaign, with six goals and five assists in the Premier League so far. His 11 goal involvements are more than any other player in the English top-flight, while he also ranks first for chances created from open play (21). 

 

James Maddison (Tottenham) - 7.58 

 

Keeping with the theme of English players, James Maddison earns a place in our XI for his start to the season so far. The 27-year-old provided assists in the first two matches of the campaign - against Leicester and Everton - before finding the net for the first time against Brentford, and most recently at Brighton on Sunday evening.

Luis Diaz (Liverpool) - 7.55 

 

Just seven matches into the season, Luis Diaz is only three league goals away (5) from equalling his total for the whole of the 2023/24 campaign (8). The Colombian winger has made an inspired start to life under new boss Arne Slot, firing home in victories over Brentford, Manchester United and Bournemouth. 

 

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - 8.11 

 

Even by his own obscene standards, Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland made an impressive start to the season, netting 10 goals in the first five matches, including back-to-back hat-tricks against Ipswich and West Ham. Though he has now gone two matches without finding the net, the Norway international still has at least four more goals to his name than any other player in the division. 

 

Kai Havertz (Arsenal) - 7.49 

 

Arsenal attacker Kai Havertz is another player to have continued his strong from over the course of last season, registering four goals and an assist in the opening seven matches of the campaign. Over the weekend, the Germany international equalled Robin van Persie’s club record of scoring in seven consecutive home matches, with a powerful strike in the victory over Southampton.
