Viktoria Plzen 2-1 Roma - Tomas Chory - 7.90 rating

Viktoria Plzen pulled off a shock 2-1 win at home to Roma on the final day of the group stage campaign to secure a third place finish in Group G and Europa League knockout football next year. 23-year-old forward Tomas Chory scored the winner and also claimed the WhoScored Man of the Match award. Chory had three shots, won eight aerial duels and also weighed in with three tackles and interceptions combined.

Real Madrid 0-3 CSKA Moscow - Nikola Vlasic - 8.80 rating

Top spot was already secured but that doesn’t excuse such a humiliating result for Real Madrid, who were dealt their biggest ever defeat on home soil in the competition’s history at the hands of CSKA Moscow. 21-year-old attacker Nikola Vlasic, on loan from Everton, has enjoyed a stunning group stage campaign and finished it with a man of the match performance. The youngster registered one assist, had three shots and completed three dribbles. Not only that, but Vlasic also completed the most tackles of any player (5).

Young Boys 2-1 Juventus - Guillaume Hoarau - 8.18 rating

Group H minnows Young Boys pulled off one of the surprises of the campaign by beating Juventus on home soil. Juventus weren’t made to pay for the defeat after Manchester United also lost, meaning the Old Lady still topped the group. Guillaume Hoarau scored both of the goals for Young Boys to secure a famous win for the Swiss side. The 34-year-old had four shots in total, won three aerial duels and made seven clearances to help the home side over the line.

Valencia 2-1 Manchester United - Carlos Soler - 8.04 rating

21-year-old Carlos Soler got Valencia on their way with a neatly taken goal in the first half and was a real menace for the home side all night, combining well with right-back Cristiano Piccini. Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho even had to bring off left-back Marcos Rojo at half-time due to the damage Valencia were doing down their right side. Not only did Soler, who United have scouted several times in the last two years, score but the youngster also registered four key passes.

Ajax 3-3 Bayern Munich - Hakim Ziyech  - 8.21 rating

There were four goals scored in the final 12 minutes of the game and Bayern will be hugely relieved to have avoided a big upset in Amsterdam to secure top spot in the group. Hakim Ziyech secured the WhoScored Man of the Match award after a pulsating display for the hosts. The 25-year-old hit the target with all three of his shots, while he also registered three key passes. Not only that, but Ziyech also completed four dribbles and weighed in with seven tackles and interceptions combined.

Benfica 1-0 AEK Athens - Alejandro Grimaldo - 9.28 rating

Neither side could finish in the top two in Group E and Benfica already had third place secure prior to tonight’s kick-off but the home side will be pleased to have completed the double over the Greek outfit. Alejandro Grimaldo scored a late winner for Benfica and was outstanding all evening. Despite playing left-back, Grimaldo had five shots and hit the target with four of them. The 21-year-old was the only player to have more than 100 touches (114), completed 91.3% of his passes and completed three dribbles. Not only that, but he also completed the most tackles (5).

Manchester City 2-1 Hoffenheim - Leroy Sane - 9.69 rating

Leroy Sane netted twice, including a tremendous first-half free-kick, to help Manchester City come from behind to beat Hoffenheim in their final group match. Sane scored as many goals against Hoffenheim as his first 16 City appearances in the competition combined. The 22-year-old also registered five key passes and completed six dribbles in another superb display from the Germany international. Sane has now scored or assisted 11 goals in his last 10 appearances for club and country.

Shakhtar Donetsk 1-1 Lyon - Nabil Fekir - 8.33 rating

Captain Nabil Fekir stepped up when his side needed him most to put Lyon through to the next round of the competition with a stunning 65th-minute equaliser. Fekir hit the target with three of his six shots and created four goalscoring opportunities for his team-mates to help get the point Lyon needed to finish second in Group F. Fekir also completed four dribbles and drew two fouls in an imperious attacking display before coming off with a few minutes of normal time remaining.
